On August 18th, 2023, representatives of the City Union of Science and Technology Associations Da Nang and GreenViet Center, GSI Institute visited the “Greenhouse library” model – reading books and career guidance in the ecological space at Hermann School. This project is co-funded by the European Union (EU) Delegation to Vietnam through the “Conservation Fund” project implemented by the GreenViet (Vietnam)- the lead, Gustav-Stresemann-Institut (GSI, Germany), and the Center for Children and Development (CCD).
The “Mobile Library” model is an idea of a bookcase with nearly 200 books in many genres such as science books, literature books, history books, short stories, illustrated comics… which is suitable for many ages old. In particular, this library is able to be “mobile” in many locations depending on the children’s daily needs.
At Hermann School, the Tree Planting Club has built a lovely school garden with ornamental trees and fruit trees, combined with taking care of the existing trees in the school yard. Under the cool green space, students of many ages sit together to read books and draw pictures with meaningful messages about the environment based on the content of the story and knowledge from what they have read and learned.
Not only does it train and promote creativity, this extracurricular activity also helps students access and learn useful knowledge, especially building awareness of environmental protection right from school.
At the project visit, representatives of the “Conservation Fund” project, CCD Center, Hermann School and SOS Village discussed, evaluated and proposed solutions to help the “Mobile Library” model to get better results.
In addition, the meeting mentioned the rotation of books for the “mobile book library” vehicle, planting a variety of trees to create a multi-story school garden, aiming for an ecological space. which is experiential and educational for students.
