Following the successful “Business with Biodiversity Conservation and Environmental Sustainability” event in June 2022, GreenViet Biodiversity Conservation Centre (GreenViet) organized another completely free networking event in March 2023. In collaboration with GSI Institute (Germany), the event formed a part of the project’s “Conservation Fund”.
The Networking Event — “Businesses and Civil Society Organizations in Biodiversity Conservation and Environmental Protection” — aimed to connect people and offered businesses an opportunity to share their values and ideas when accompanying social organizations through CSR activities. Throughout the event, participants gained access to “idea banks” from social organizations.
At the same time, it was an opportunity for Social Organizations, who directly carry out biodiversity conservation and environmental protection activities, to approach and connect with some of the country’s large-scale businesses.
What’s interesting about the event?
Businesses and CSOs had the chance to visit small projects in Da Nang, that are being funded by the Conservation Fund. Some of the key topics discussed were:
- The representative of EUD shared policies and programs, that have been implemented over the last few years to promote collaboration between businesses and CSOs in Vietnam;
- The next programs that will support this collaboration were discussed;
- Goals and specific objectives of EUD Viet Nam for 2021-2027 regarding EU Green Deal and the Cooperation Program between the EUD and Vietnamese organizations
- Prof Beckmann (Prof of the Erlengen University, Germany) shared insights on CSR and ESG.
There was also a Talk Show, “Joining hands for biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability”. In which, Jesús Lavina, Deputy Head of Cooperation (EUD), the representative of Dai-ichi company (business), and the representative of civil society organizations (CSOs) in the Central region discussed sustainability and biodiversity conservation.
Candid sharing by businesses, social organizations, experts and sponsors brings many interesting insights on the topic of sustainability and biodiversity conservation from those operating and accompanying projects in the field. What’s more, it offers multidimensional perspectives that individuals can take back to their own organizations From here, CSOs can develop appropriate plans and strategies for their own projects
In addition, the event offers project implementers time to reflect on the journey that the Conservation Fund Project has gone through, from its achievements and lessons learned.
The project, “Establishing a funding foundation for biodiversity protection and environmental sustainability in Danang City, Vietnam” (in short, the “Conservation Fund” project), is led by GreenViet (Vietnam), co-funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam, and supported by the Gustav-Stresemann-Institut (GSI, Germany). This project aims to establish the Vietnam Wildlife Conservation Fund to mobilize funding sources and increase the capacity of local CSOs focusing on biodiversity conservation and environmental protection initiatives in Central and Central Highland, Vietnam.
